To me, a nurse is someone who cares for and loves people who need it the most. They are a part of other people's most significant events in their lives such as the birth of one's child, the death of a family member, and life-changing good or bad news. Through all of these things patients can be assured that nurses will be there for them, no matter what. Nursing is a field of compassion. If one doesn't have compassion for others who are hurting, they would not make a good nurse. I believe that the one thing that drives a nurse is not the paycheck they receive or the fame and honor that may be deserved, but it is the people that are hurting, don't know what to do, and don't know how to handle their current situation. Nurses are always there to comfort others in their time of need. It is a truly admirable field to go into.
I have always been a compassionate person and have always been able to put myself into other people's shoes and feel their pain, and I love helping people. Although nursing was something that was not on my list of options for a career, I kept coming back to the feeling that this is what I wanted to do. I researched everything that nurses do and came to the conclusion that this truly was something that I wanted to pursue. As I learn more each day in class about nursing, I realize that what I will be doing is going to be perfect for me.
I am excited to get started with nursing school. I know that this is just the beginning for me. Although I am sure that there are going to be many times where I am going to want to give up, I will always remember why I wanted to become a nurse in the first place, so that I can help people who are going through the most difficult of times. My future goals are to go on to get my masters degree in nursing, specializing in field of pediatric oncology. I hope that I can make a difference in the lives of little ones going through a most devastating time.
I believe that the professors and doctors at TCC and TMH will be key to my success as I begin my nursing career. I am grateful for this opportunity and am so excited for what is to come for me in the next couple of years of nursing school!
