Final Exam and Class Thoughts

Just finished the final exam and did much better this time!! I'm so glad because I study SOOOOO much and very hard for it! I'm glad it is OVER and I passed my first nursing class! This is very excited! I can't wait to get started with the next classes!! I think that I am really starting to think more and more like a nurse everyday! Hopefully by the end of this semester I will be well on my way to becoming an RN. I have enjoyed clinicals and labs this 8 weeks, but am a little nervous about the upcoming labs because they are pass/fail labs!! I will definitely be utilizing those open lab times for sure!!! I am glad we don't have class until 11 tomorrow! I need a little extra time to re-coop from all the stress of this exam!! Sleeping in is going to be quite relaxing!! I have enjoyed the beginning of nursing and hope that it will continually get better as I go!!!

Last Blog

I had two clinicals this week since I missed last week's clinicals from being sick. They went well. I was pleased with the job that I had done by the second day because I was much more comfortable with the patients, staff, and facility. It gave me a good glimpse of what our two days a week clinicals are going to be like. I actually liked going two days in a row! I got lots of good practice even though waking up VERY early both days was not so fun! :) I got to take a nap afterward though so it helped. I have been studying hard this week for the exam. I'm trying to pull all of my knowledge together as I study this weekend! I need to do at least fairly well on the final. I will be glad when it is all over though!!! Well, it's back to studying for me!!

Getting closer to the end!

I was sick this week!! :( Caught a touch of the stomach flu and was unable to work at clinicals! :( I will be going on thursday and friday to healthsouth next week which should be interesting. I will be able to see what it is going to be like when we really do have to start clinicals two days a week!! I am feeling much better and have been reading and studying for the final already!! I need to do well on this final and am planning on meeting some friends to help me study!! I can't believe that this class is coming to an end! It seems like just yesterday I was ordering my scrubs and putting them on for the first day of class! I am glad that I am starting to become more acquainted with the hospital setting and nursing in general! I am excited to continue on this nursing path and learn more about what I love!!

The weeks are flying by!

It seems like just yesterday we started our first day of school. Now, in a few weeks, we will be done with our first nursing class/labs/clinicals and moving on to the next! It has been a good experience so far and I am starting to get the hang of things. I am still waiting for everything to click when I go into clinicals so I won't keep having to check my notes and make sure I am doing everything correct step by step. It will just take more time and practice. I am glad that I get a 4 day weekend, although I have to work. It will still give me an opportunity to catch up on some reading and do the nutrition project! I am learning so much so fast!! I am trying to stay on top of things so that I don't fall behind! Good luck to everyone who has clinicals today and tomorrow!! You will do great!!

Midterm Exam

I didn't do that well on the midterm. I did alright, but it wasn't my best. I second guessed myself too much and most of the ones I missed I still think that my answer is right because it could have gone either way depending on the way someone thinks. I'm ready to move on and do better next time. Clinicals are on Friday so I am glad I get a day off and pretty excited for the actual clinical. Hopefully I will get a patient who is understanding that I am a nursing STUDENT and have never really given someone a bath before! It will be an interesting experience however I can't say that I won't be pretty happy when I can delegate the dirty work to someone else when I become an RN. For now, it will be a good experience for me and will be humbling as well. Hopefully I won't be as nervous as I was last week going into the clinicals for the first time, but we will see.

1st Clinicals

Thursday was my first day of clinicals. I was definitely nervous going into it. I have not been in a hospital setting very much and no one in my family is in the medical field so I didn't know what to expect. Once I was there and had gotten used to my surroundings and my patient, I was able to relax and enjoy myself. I think that in the future clinicals I just need to have more confidence going into it and to remember that I am there to help others who really need it. This is just the beginning and I can't wait to see what the future clinicals hold. I can only get better from here as I learn more and more about nursing! :)

2nd Week of Nursing School

I have just finished the second week of nursing school. It has been great getting into the swing of things with classes and labs that we have going on. Nothing has gotten too terribly difficult yet, but I know that this is only the beginning. I have really enjoyed everything that we have learned so far in classes and labs. We just learned how to do vital signs, and I have been practicing on everyone I know. Taking blood pressure is the hardest for me to do, but I am working on it. My sister is coming home from college for the weekend and bringing some friends with her. I told her to be prepared for a checkup for her and all of her friends. Hopefully I will get much better at taking blood pressure. I am excited about clinicals starting next week, but am a little nervous because I don't know what to expect. It will be a very interesting experience because it will be the first time that I will actually be able to attempt to take care of people in the hospital. Overall, everything has been going well so far. I'm excited to get started with clinicals and the rest of the nursing program! :)
